CMWU Begins Implementing the Rainwater Pond Rehabilitation Project in Al-Amal Neighborhood, Khan Younis

CMWU has begun implementing the works of the first phase of the rainwater pond rehabilitation project in Al-Amal neighborhood in Khan Younis city, funded at $600,000 by the Islamic Development Bank.
The project's first phase includes constructing a rainwater pumping station with a capacity of 2,700 cubic meters per hour, as well as the conveyance line from Al-Amal basin to the proposed filtration basin next to the treatment plant west of Khan Younis city, 1,500 meters long.
The importance of this type of project lies in relieving the burden on residents and reducing the damage resulting from rainwater and contributing to easing the water crisis, as the station and conveyance line rehabilitation project aims to transfer excess rainwater from Al-Amal basin to the filtration basin in the event of a rise in the level of rainwater collected in Al-Amal pond basin during the winter season or in emergencies, in order to prevent floods that could cause damage to residents living near the station, and rainwater will also be benefited from by filtering it into the groundwater aquifer.
It is worth noting that a second phase of the project will be implemented, including constructing the filtration basins, with joint funding from the Islamic Development Bank and the Arab Organization for the Reconstruction of Gaza, with the project expected to be completed at the end of 2016.
