شرعت مصلحة مياه بلديات الساحل في تنفيذ أعمال المرحلة الأولى من مشروع تأهيل بركة مياه الأمطار في حي الأمل بمدينة خان يونس بتمويل قيمته 600 ألف دولار من البنك الإسلامي للتنمية.
هذا وتشمل المرحلة الأولى من المشروع إنشاء محطة ضخ مياه الأمطار بقدرة 2700 متر مكعب بالساعة وأيضاً الخط الناقل من حوض الأمل إلي حوض الترشيح المقترح بجوار محطة المعالجة غرب مدينة خان يونس بطول 1500 متر.
وتأتي أهمية هذا النوع من المشاريع في تخفيف العبء عن المواطنين والحد من الأضرار الناتجة عن مياه المطار والمساهمة في الحد من أزمة المياه، حيث يهدف مشروع تأهيل المحطة والخط الناقل إلى نقل مياه الأمطار الفائضة من حوض الأمل إلي حوض الترشيح في حالة ارتفاع منسوب مياه الأمطار المتجمعة في حوض بركة الأمل في فصل الشتاء أو في حالات طارئة، وذلك لمنع حدوث فيضانات قد تتسبب بأضرار للمواطنين الذين يقطنون بالقرب من المحطة، كما سيتم الاستفادة من مياه الأمطار من خلال ترشيحها للخزان الجوفي.
جدير بالذكر أنه سيتم تنفيذ مرحلة ثانية من المشروع تشمل إنشاء أحواض الترشيح بتمويل مشترك من البنك الإسلامي للتنمية والهيئة العربية الدولية لإعادة الإعمار،ومن المتوقع أن يتم الانتهاء من المشروع في نهاية العام 2016.

Coastal Municipality Water Utility embarked on the implementation of rehabilitating rainwater pond project in Al-Amal neighborhood in Khan Younis with fund about 600 thousand dollars from the Islamic Bank for Development.
The first phase of the project includes the construction of rainwater pumping plant with capacity of 2700 cubic meters per hour and also a carrier line with a length of 1,500 meters from Al- Amal basin to the proposed filtration basin next to the treatment plant in the west of Khan Yunis.
The importance of this type of project comes from its role in relieving the burden on citizens and reducing the damage caused by rainwater as well as solving the water crisis. The rehabilitation project of the station and carrier line aims to transfer the excess rain water from Al- Amal basin in the case of high level of the accumulated rainwater in Al- Amal pond basin in the winter or in emergency to prevent the occurrence of floods that may cause damage to the citizens who live near the plant. In addition, the rainwater will be used by being filtered to the aquifer.
It is worth mentioning that the implementation of the second phase of the project includes the construction of filtration basins with co-financing from the Islamic Bank for Development and The Arab and International Commission to Build Gaza. It is expected to finish the project at the end of 2016
