A delegation of students from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Smart Systems at the Islamic University, headed by Dr. Mohammed Abdel Aati, Director of the University's Research and Projects Center, and Dr. Hatem Al-Ayedi from the Electrical Engineering and Smart Systems Department, visited the desalination plant headquarters in Deir al-Balah, as part of the activities of the "Preparing Faculty of Engineering Graduates to Keep Pace with Labor Market Needs in the Field of Energy and Smart Cities" project, funded by the World Bank, in partnership with CMWU, Megapower Company, and Ooredoo Company, with the project targeting Faculty of Engineering students and graduates interested in applying information and communications technology (ICT) to solve energy issues.
In turn, Dr. Mohammed Abdel Aati said that the purpose of visiting the desalination plant is to inform fifth- and second-level students of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of practical applications related to programmed control systems and smart systems, and for the course's students to benefit from seeing a real practical system that they can later apply a simulation of in the laboratory.
Dr. Abdel Aati noted that the visit's importance comes from CMWU being an institution with long experience and expertise in automation, smart systems, and managing modern desalination plants, and this is a wonderful opportunity for students to closely review real practical applications in this field.
In turn, Dr. Hatem Al-Ayedi said that the visit was a well-chosen one and left everyone amazed at how modern and precise the automation system used at this plant is, adding that the plant has a distinguished integrated system and a great and real opportunity for our students to review an integrated system of this scale, noting that CMWU has made a qualitative leap in the last three years in this field, and there is effectively no institution or factory in the Strip operating at this level.
The delegation was received by Eng. Ahmed Al-Rubaie, official in charge of maintenance and operation at the desalination plants, who gave the delegation's members a comprehensive explanation of the plant's operating mechanism, including the various stages of the seawater desalination process, as well as the plant's control system. In this context, Eng. Al-Rubaie praised the close relationship between the Utility and the Gaza Strip's universities in general and the Islamic University in particular, as CMWU attaches special importance to periodic visits by its students to learn about water desalination technology in general and its automatic control systems in particular.
At the conclusion of the visit, the delegation thanked CMWU for the warm reception and the detailed presentation of the plant's operating mechanism.
