Funded by the European Union and under joint supervision by UNICEF, the Palestinian Water Authority, and CMWU, activities of the project to expand the southern seawater desalination plant, at a cost of $20 million, have begun, by adding desalination units with a production capacity of 14,000 cubic meters/day, bringing the plant's production capacity to 20,000 cubic meters/day, with the project currently being implemented by a local contractor (Masoud and Ali Company) in partnership with an international company (the Turkish company Akuamatch). It is worth noting that the number of beneficiaries from this plant will reach about 250,000 people, residents of western Khan Younis and Rafah cities.
