CMWU, with support from UNICEF, distributed sodium hypochlorite to Gaza's wells, warning of depleting chlorine stock amid continued crossing closures.
Amid the difficult humanitarian conditions facing the Gaza Strip, and with the continued closure of the crossings, CMWU, with support from and in cooperation with UNICEF, began distributing a quantity of sodium hypochlorite, used to disinfect water, to all wells and water sources across the various areas of the Gaza Strip.
This urgent action is part of efforts aimed at ensuring the continued provision of safe, usable water for human consumption to residents and displaced persons across the various areas of the Strip.
The distribution also included the chemicals needed for desalination operations, which were delivered to the main desalination plants, alongside the desalination plants affiliated with the municipalities and the private sector, to ensure the continued production of desalinated water in line with the required health standards, which is an urgent necessity to preserve public health amid the deteriorating environmental and living conditions.
It is worth noting that the chlorine stock used for water disinfection is about to run out, amid the continued closure of the crossings and the ban on the entry of essential chemicals, threatening a suffocating water crisis if the current situation continues.
