CMWU implemented a project to install solar power systems for a number of well-based desalination plants in various areas south of the Gaza Strip, funded by the European Union in cooperation with Oxfam, with the project including installing solar power systems at Abu Ishaq water well plant in Bani Suheila, Al-Safa and Al-Sikka plants in Rafah city, and the Sports Club well plant, Aya well, and Al-Sa'ada plant in Khan Younis city, aiming to ensure the operation of those plants for a greater number of hours in order to secure residents' needs of drinking water in the targeted areas, with this project serving about 120,000 people.
This project comes as part of a series of projects through which CMWU seeks to address and ease the problems resulting from power outages and reduce operating costs, as CMWU had previously supplied numerous water and sanitation facilities with solar power systems in various governorates and cities of the Gaza Strip.
