CMWU crews, in cooperation with Al-Masdar Municipality, continue carrying out desludging works on the cesspits designated for collecting sewage at the Al-Sikka shelter center and various shelter centers in the town, particularly those established in areas lacking sanitation networks, as part of its ongoing efforts to improve environmental conditions and reduce the health risks resulting from full cesspits, especially given the exceptional humanitarian conditions facing the Gaza Strip.
The works included desludging a number of cesspits at the shelter center, aiming to prevent sewage overflow, maintain general cleanliness, and reduce the spread of bad odors and insects, helping to provide a safer and healthier environment for displaced persons and residents.
In the same context, CMWU crews continue carrying out treatment and desludging works on cesspits at various shelter centers across all governorates of the Gaza Strip, as part of an operational plan aimed at preventing sewage overflow inside displacement camps and shelter centers, and reducing its accumulation between tents and public facilities, helping to reduce the spread of diseases and epidemics, ease environmental and health risks, and maintain the minimum requirements of public health amid population density and continued emergency conditions.
CMWU faces growing operational challenges that hinder the implementation and sustainability of these interventions, foremost among them the acute shortage of fuel, oils, spare parts, and operational materials needed to operate and maintain machinery and water and sanitation facilities, which limits the ability to respond to the growing needs at shelter centers, and increases the difficulty of maintaining the continuity of essential services and preventing the worsening of environmental and health conditions, amid the continued exceptional humanitarian conditions facing the Gaza Strip.
