A senior delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross visited the Al-Manshiya desalination plant and Al-Baqara pumping station in Gaza to discuss prospects for cooperation in strengthening water and sanitation services.
International Committee of the Red Cross Delegation Visits Al-Manshiya Desalination Plant and Al-Baqara Sewage Pumping Station (No. 5) in Gaza City
As part of ongoing efforts to support the water and sanitation sectors in Gaza City, CMWU received a delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross on a field visit that included the Al-Manshiya desalination plant, with a production capacity of 50 m3/hour, and the Al-Baqara sewage pumping station, for which maintenance and rehabilitation works are scheduled to be carried out with the Committee's support.
The visiting delegation included Nicolas von Arx, ICRC Regional Director for the Middle East, and Jullien Lerisson, Head of the ICRC Delegation in the occupied territories, along with a number of Committee representatives.
The delegation was received by Eng. Moataz Abu Al-Qumboz, Director of the Projects Design Department at CMWU, and Eng. Saadi Ali, Manager of the desalination plant construction project, where the delegation was briefed on the progress of the ongoing projects and interventions, and discussed prospects for joint cooperation to strengthen the sustainability of water and sanitation services and improve the level of service provided to citizens.
This visit reaffirms the importance of the partnership and cooperation between CMWU and the International Committee of the Red Cross in supporting the water and sanitation infrastructure and strengthening essential services in Gaza City.
