Supported by UNICEF, CMWU urgently supplied coastal sewage pumping stations with about 100,000 liters of diesel fuel, with additional quantities from UNICEF currently being distributed, in order to help the municipalities of the Gaza Strip operate some wells, desalination plants, and sewage pumping stations, aiming to reduce the pumping of sewage water into the sea without treatment, which leads to an environmental catastrophe threatening the Palestinian environment and residents' health, particularly with the onset of the summer season.
CMWU also, funded by the International Committee of the Red Cross, distributed additional quantities during and after the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, reaching about 120,000 liters.
It is worth noting CMWU's keenness to supply the central water wells in various areas of the Gaza Strip with diesel fuel, in order to operate those wells for the greatest possible number of hours to provide minimum quantities of water to residents, particularly during the summer season and increased water consumption by residents, and additional quantities of diesel fuel will continue to be distributed during the coming days.
It is worth noting that the electricity outage crisis continues to worsen amid the continuing Israeli refusal to repair the lines feeding the Gaza Strip with electricity, in addition to preventing the entry of fuel to operate the Gaza Strip's sole power generation plant, which increases the danger of the situation in the Strip amid the continuing spread of the coronavirus pandemic and the effects of the Israeli war on all aspects of life.
