The water utility, through field coordination with the Water Authority and in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross and Khan Younis Municipality, carried out an emergency intervention to address the health hazard resulting from sewage overflow inside Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis city, after it had directly and negatively affected operations at the hospital, particularly in the reception and patient wards.
The emergency works included addressing the causes of the problem, cleaning and unblocking the hospital's sanitation network, and carrying out the necessary maintenance and repairs, which enabled restoring the environmental situation to normal and ensuring the hospital's continued operation without further obstacles.
This urgent intervention comes at a time when the Khan Younis areas are witnessing a sharp escalation in military operations, doubling the need to ensure the hospital's continued operation and the provision of health services to the wounded and patients amid difficult humanitarian conditions.
CMWU affirmed that these efforts are part of its responsibility, along with its partners, to support the health sector and ensure the provision of water and sanitation services and protect health facilities from environmental risks under all conditions.
