Executive Director Eng. Munther Shublaq participated in a meeting at the Palestinian Embassy in Cairo with The Elders on the requirements for rebuilding the water sector after the war.
Cairo - CMWU Executive Director Eng. Munther Shublaq participated in a meeting organized by the Embassy of the State of Palestine in the Arab Republic of Egypt, in the presence of the Palestinian Ambassador to Cairo, Dr. Diab Al-Louh, and a delegation from The Elders, which included the former President of Ireland and the former Prime Minister of New Zealand, with the participation of a number of representatives from civil society institutions.
The meeting addressed the repercussions of the war on the various sectors in the Gaza Strip, and the challenges facing service and humanitarian institutions, in addition to discussing the urgent requirements for the post-war phase, ensuring reconstruction and improving the living conditions of residents.
In his remarks, Eng. Munther Shublaq affirmed the importance of preparing a comprehensive reconstruction plan for all the sectors destroyed by the Israeli war machine, particularly the water and sanitation sector, given its close connection to various other sectors and its direct impact on residents' health and the environment. He pointed to the scale of the significant destruction and its serious repercussions, affirming the importance of the efforts made by CMWU and its partners from national and international institutions, especially the Water Authority, UNICEF, the International Committee of the Red Cross, Oxfam, and others, to prevent the collapse of this vital sector amid the continuing war, with a focus on delivering service at the minimum level despite the systematic targeting of infrastructure.
