CMWU Intervenes Urgently to Resolve the Water Crisis in Khuza'a after the Two Wells Feeding the Area Completely Stopped Working

CMWU, in coordination with Khuza'a Municipality, has begun taking urgent measures to resolve the water shortage crisis in Khuza'a and supply the area's residents with desalinated water suitable for drinking, after the two wells feeding the area completely stopped working and the resulting sharp shortage in the quantities of water reaching residents. In this context, the Utility is distributing about 30 cubic meters of water daily to the area's residents, filled from desalination plants in Khan Younis and emptied into ground tanks at residents' homes through the Utility's tankers for transporting desalinated water.
The Utility urgently rehabilitated two of the private wells in the area and connected them to the networks to pump water to residents and compensate for the shortage in water supplies resulting from the municipal wells stopping work.
Adding to the severity of the water crisis facing the Khuza'a area is the reduction in the quantity of water from the Mekorot line supplying the eastern areas of Khan Younis, from 300 cubic meters per hour to 140 cubic meters per hour, as well as the worsening electricity crisis and the weakness of the electrical current (the Egyptian line) reaching the wells and its inability to operate the wells located in the Morag area, which feed part of the eastern areas, including the Khuza'a area.
These interventions to resolve the water crisis in Khuza'a come within the framework of the emergency interventions and efforts made by CMWU to solve the worsening water problems in various areas of the Gaza Strip, especially the southern governorates, and continue supplying residents with the water necessary for their needs until the necessary funding is secured to drill new water wells in the Khuza'a area to replace the old wells that stopped working.
In this regard, CMWU appeals to all residents on the necessity of rationing water consumption, especially amid the continuing electricity crisis.
