CMWU's Chairman of the Board of Directors Dr. Majed Abu Ramadan received His Excellency Ambassador Eng. Mohammed Al-Emadi, Chairman of the Qatari Committee for the Reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, at the seawater desalination plant south of the Gaza Strip, accompanied on this visit by his deputy Eng. Khaled Al-Hardan.
The visiting delegation was received by CMWU's Director-General Eng. Monther Shoblaq and his deputies.
At the start of the visit, Ambassador Al-Emadi was briefed on the reality of the water services sector in the Gaza Strip and its challenges, and the strategic projects that have been constructed and begun operating, particularly the seawater desalination plants and sewage treatment plants, with support from some donor organizations, in cooperation and coordination with the Water Authority, aiming to improve the water and sanitation services provided to the residents of the Gaza Strip.
CMWU's efforts to continue operating these facilities were addressed, amid the difficulty in securing the operating expenses of those facilities and the need to continue supporting CMWU's development and operational programs, particularly amid the economic situation the Gaza Strip is going through.
This visit included a field tour inside the desalination plant for the visiting delegation, aiming to review it and the nature of its work and the most important difficulties facing its operation, particularly regarding the irregularity of the electric current, in addition to briefing Ambassador Al-Emadi on the progress of the various construction works inside it, aiming to develop it and increase its production capacity.
In turn, Dr. Majed Abu Ramadan welcomed His Excellency the Qatari Ambassador, praising the historic role of the sisterly State of Qatar and its honorable and permanent stance alongside the Palestinian people, praising its tireless efforts aimed at improving conditions in all aspects of life in the Gaza Strip, particularly amid the difficult political and economic situation the Gaza Strip is going through.
Dr. Majed Abu Ramadan also briefed the Qatari Ambassador on the reality of services in the water sector and its challenges, and the most important and prominent needs of CMWU in order to ensure its continued provision of its services to residents in the Gaza Strip.
At the end of the meeting, Ambassador Mohammed Al-Emadi praised CMWU's efforts to carry out its duties to the fullest, despite the limited capabilities and difficult conditions the Gaza Strip is going through, affirming the importance of supporting the Utility and strengthening its role in its pursuit of upgrading the level of services provided to residents, and affirmed the Qatari Committee's readiness to support CMWU's development projects and support its programs aimed at the sustainability of water and sanitation services.
