CMWU Receives the Chairman of the International Quartet Committee in Palestine Mr. John Clarke

CMWU received, this afternoon, the Chairman of the International Quartet Committee in Palestine Mr. John Clarke, at the Central Treatment Plant for Gaza and the Central Governorate east of Al-Bureij, as part of his surprise visit to some sites damaged by the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.
He was received by CMWU's Director-General Eng. Monther Shoblaq, Deputy Director-General for Technical Affairs Eng. Omar Shatat, the Director of the Central Gaza Sanitation Project Management Unit Eng. Fareed Ashour, Eng. Fahed Al-Khatib, Networks and Sanitation Officer, in addition to the treatment plant's staff, with this visit including a tour inside the plant to review the damage sustained by the solar power cells as a result of Israeli bombardment of them, and Mr. Clarke earlier today conducted a tour of some areas where water and sanitation networks and facilities were damaged north of the Gaza Strip as a result of Israeli bombardment of those areas.
In turn, Eng. Monther Shoblaq briefed the Chairman of the International Quartet Committee on the repercussions of the Israeli aggression and the scale of the massive destruction sustained by the water and sanitation sector as a result of targeting main roads and intersections and the resulting destruction of many water and sanitation networks and its impact on providing services to residents, particularly the bombing of the sewage transmission lines, which led to the treatment plants stopping during the aggression and resorting to discharging sewage water into the sea and random pools, and also the main water lines, such as the transmission line for the water of Bir Al-Na'ja wells in Jabalia feeding some neighborhoods of Gaza city and Jabalia, as well as the Mekorot water line feeding areas east of Khan Younis and the Central Mekorot line feeding Nuseirat and Al-Maghazi camps and Al-Zawayda town, and numerous water and sanitation networks in various areas of the Gaza Strip's cities.
In this context, Eng. Monther Shoblaq affirmed the importance of urgent support from UN agencies and international donor organizations for the efforts of CMWU and the municipalities, under the supervision of the Palestinian Water Authority, in order to speed up the reconstruction of the damage resulting from the recent Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.
Eng. Shoblaq indicated to Mr. Clarke that the report on the damage assessment is nearing completion, in coordination and cooperation with the Water Authority and the municipalities of the Gaza Strip, and the necessity of serious cooperation from all local and international organizations in order to speed up addressing the effects of this aggression on the water sector and the return of water and sanitation services to all cities and neighborhoods of the Gaza Strip.
