The Deir al-Balah seawater desalination plant receives 18 educational trips for preparatory-stage students over two months to raise awareness of the importance of water.
CMWU Receives a Number of Educational Trips at the Deir al-Balah Seawater Desalination Plant
CMWU has received, at the Deir al-Balah seawater desalination plant, since the beginning of the school year, numerous educational school trips for male and female students from preparatory-stage schools, with this activity coming within the framework of the close and continuous cooperation between CMWU and the Ministry of Education and the Education Department of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), in order to strengthen residents' awareness and culture regarding the importance of water resources and ways to preserve them, and the necessity of finding new water resources to reduce the depletion of the groundwater aquifer, the sole source of water in the Gaza Strip.
During the past two months, the desalination plant received 18 educational trips from preparatory-stage schools in various governorates of the Gaza Strip, and at the beginning of each visit, the visiting delegations from schools are received and accompanied on a tour inside the plant by the desalination plant's crew, during which they are introduced to the various water facilities and services provided by CMWU to residents in the various governorates, including desalination plants, the water testing laboratory, and sewage water.
In addition, a detailed explanation is given of the plant's operating mechanism and the stages by which the desalination process takes place, beginning with drawing water from wells on the seashore, through purification and desalination processes by reverse osmosis, up to producing desalinated water according to World Health Organization specifications and standards.
It is worth noting that the Utility's desalination plant receives educational school trips from all governorates throughout the school year, especially ninth-grade male and female students, since there are lessons related to water desalination within their curriculum, and it also receives numerous educational trips from universities, especially students in certain specializations and departments in the Faculty of Engineering.
