CMWU Succeeds in Installing the Desalination Units at the Al-Shifa Desalination Plant
CMWU has succeeded in installing the desalination units for the Al-Shifa Medical Complex desalination plant in Gaza city, to begin installing the plant and connecting it to the existing water network early next week, with the work expected to be completed and trial pumping and system testing to begin by the end of this month, with the plant to produce 500 cubic meters daily.
The Al-Shifa Hospital desalination plant project comes within the framework of the projects implemented by CMWU to improve water services and supplies in the Gaza Strip, and continuing the close cooperation with the Ministry of Health, and in support of Al-Shifa Hospital in order to secure the hospital's needs for water suitable for the different departments' uses, and serve an important segment of residents and the medical staff working there, and preserve the medical devices and equipment negatively affected by high salinity levels in the water.
CMWU had begun implementing the project's works since February 2016, by constructing a water tank with a capacity of 100 cubic meters daily to receive the hospital's well water to be desalinated, in addition to leveling works at the site and laying the plant's water lines, maintaining the old network, rehabilitating one of the existing water wells with a capacity of 500 cubic meters daily, installing a complete wellhead, and building and installing a water pump.
It is worth noting that this project was funded through a donation campaign launched by Human Appeal UK to complete this humanitarian project, which received great response from donors, with the project's value reaching $420,000, and it is worth noting that Al-Shifa Hospital was previously supplied with a mobile desalination plant for the dialysis unit with a production capacity of 100 cubic meters per day, in order to reduce the effort and cost of transporting and storing desalinated water to meet the hospital's needs.
