CMWU Receives International Delegations to Discuss Ways to Develop the Desalination Plant West of Khan Younis
CMWU received a number of international delegations, as part of efforts aimed at strengthening the water services provided to citizens and displaced persons in the areas west of Khan Younis, in addition to the areas of the south of the Gaza Strip, which are witnessing a notable increase in demand for water as a result of difficult humanitarian conditions.
A delegation from the Palestinian Agricultural Relief Committees (PARC) and CARE International visited the desalination plant located at the Utility's warehouses west of Khan Younis, and discussed with the Utility's officials ways of cooperation to develop and maintain the plant in line with the growing needs in the area.
The Utility also received a delegation from Medecins Sans Frontieres - Holland, which included Ms. Virginia Mielgo, the organization's water and sanitation projects coordinator, where the possibility of raising the plant's production capacity and expanding the scope of its services to meet the growing demand for water was discussed, particularly amid the increasing number of displaced persons in the camps and surrounding communities.
CMWU affirmed the importance of these partnerships with international institutions, to strengthen the water sector's infrastructure and ensure the continuity of service amid the emergency conditions the sector is experiencing.
