CMWU, funded by the UAE, maintained the destroyed Al-Rayyan well west of Khan Younis and other wells in Nuseirat and Deir al-Balah to strengthen the water system.
Funded by the United Arab Emirates and Operation Al-Fares Al-Shahm 3, CMWU began carrying out maintenance works on a number of vital wells in the central and southern Gaza Strip, aiming to strengthen the capacity of the water system and improve supply services for residents and displaced persons.
Comprehensive maintenance works are currently underway on the Al-Rayyan well west of Khan Younis, which was completely destroyed during the Israeli incursion into the city in February 2024. The well is a main source supplying the areas west of Khan Younis and the densely displaced Mawasi area, and also feeds the Al-Buraq water reservoir. Its production capacity is about 60 cubic meters per hour, serving about 30,000 residents and displaced persons.
The rehabilitation works include constructing a new well room, maintaining the destroyed pump and all its associated electromechanical works, in addition to supplying a new electrical control panel and connecting the well to the two main water networks: the local distribution network and the network feeding displaced persons in the area.
Work is also underway to maintain the Abraj Ain Jalut well in Nuseirat, which includes rehabilitating the room damaged by bombardment and maintaining all electromechanical components. The project also includes maintaining a number of other wells in the area, including the K21 well and the Al-Aqsa reservoir in Deir al-Balah, and the Taj Al-Waqar well and the Abraj Ain Jalut well in Nuseirat, in addition to the Al-Rayyan well in Khan Younis.
