CMWU Receives the Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF

CMWU's Executive Director Eng. Monther Shoblaq received UNICEF's Deputy Executive Director in New York, Mr. Ted Chaiban, during his visit and that of the UNICEF team to the Southern Desalination Plant, which came as part of completing their mission to conduct field tours of shelter locations, schools, random camps, and others, in addition to reviewing the progress of the program supplying drinking water to displaced residents from water sources through the water networks and tankers affiliated with CMWU.

The visiting delegation was received by Deputy Executive Director for Technical Affairs Eng. Omar Shatat and Eng. Maher Al-Najjar, KfW Projects Department Director.

During the visit, the delegation was briefed on the measures and needs for supplying the residents of the central and southern governorates and the displaced persons who have arrived there, whose numbers have reached more than 1.8 million people, and the challenges facing the water utility and municipalities in continuing to provide water and sanitation services, whether in terms of safety while performing services or the severe shortage in the availability of equipment, generators, and spare parts.
