CMWU Begins Implementing a Project to Install Rainwater Drainage Systems in Tal Al-Sultan and Al-Jineina Areas in Rafah

CMWU, funded by the Office of the UN Special Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs "OCHA" through the Norwegian Refugee Council, began implementing a project to install rainwater drainage systems in Tal Al-Sultan and Al-Jineina areas in Rafah city, south of the Gaza Strip, with this project including separating rainwater from sewage water, in addition to replacing the old sewage networks and preparing a rainwater basin in Rafah. This project aims to protect residents and their homes in those areas from the risk of rainwater flooding, with this project serving about 50,000 people.
This project comes as part of a series of projects that CMWU has been implementing, aiming to improve the readiness of water and sanitation facilities to receive the winter season, in order to reduce the risks of flooding caused by storms to residents and their property.
It is worth noting that CMWU has implemented and participated in implementing numerous rainwater drainage system projects over the past years in various areas across all cities of the Gaza Strip, including the rainwater basin project in Al-Amal neighborhood west of Khan Younis, the rainwater basin in Al-Jineina neighborhood in Rafah, the rainwater drainage project in Al-Saftawi area, and the emergency rainwater drainage project for Sheikh Radwan pond in Gaza, among other projects aiming to make the most of rainwater and protect residents and their property from the risks of flooding during the winter season, noting that work is currently underway to develop Aslan basin in Beit Lahia, north of the Gaza Strip, with joint funding between the Arab Organization for Rebuilding Palestine and the Islamic Development Bank, in cooperation with CMWU and Beit Lahia Municipality.
