CMWU participated in the conference marking 1,000 days since the launch of Operation Al-Fares Al-Shahm 3, and presented UAE projects supporting the water sector in Gaza.
CMWU participated in the conference organized by Operation Al-Fares Al-Shahm 3, titled 1,000 Days Since the Launch of the Operation, attended by CMWU Deputy Executive Director Eng. Omar Shatat, with the participation of representatives from various international and local institutions.
During his participation, Eng. Omar Shatat presented the main challenges facing the water and sanitation sectors in the Gaza Strip, particularly amid the ongoing war and the Israeli restrictions imposed on bringing in spare parts, oils, and maintenance supplies, and the resulting difficulties in operating and maintaining water and sanitation facilities, which directly affects the continuity of providing essential services to citizens.
He also presented the most prominent projects implemented with support from the United Arab Emirates through 1,000 days since the launch of Operation Al-Fares Al-Shahm 3, foremost among them the Emirati desalination plant established on the Egyptian side, with a capacity of 2 million gallons per day, and the 7.6-kilometer Emirati water transmission line, in addition to the supply of 28 water tanker trucks, the maintenance, rehabilitation, and drilling of water wells, and the supply of 242 plastic tanks and 18,722 plastic gallon containers for filling drinking water, serving displacement camps, efforts that have served as a lifeline and a source of hope, and have had a major impact in alleviating the suffering of residents and displaced persons, and strengthening the continuity of water services across the various areas of the Gaza Strip.
In closing his remarks, Eng. Omar Shatat expressed his deep thanks and appreciation to the United Arab Emirates, Operation Al-Fares Al-Shahm 3, and all local and international partners, for their continued support of the water and sanitation sector, affirming that this support has contributed to strengthening the sector's resilience and the continuity of essential services for citizens, despite the challenges and difficult humanitarian conditions facing the Gaza Strip.
