CMWU participated in a conference organized by Operation “Gallant Knight 3” under the title “1,000 Days Since the Launch of the Operation,” attended by CMWU Deputy Executive Director Eng. Omar Shtat, along with representatives from various international and local organizations.
During his participation, Eng. Omar Shtat highlighted the key challenges facing the water and wastewater sectors in the Gaza Strip, particularly amid the ongoing war and restrictions on the entry of spare parts, oils, and maintenance supplies. These restrictions have created significant difficulties in operating and maintaining water and wastewater facilities, directly affecting the continuity of essential services for residents.
He also highlighted the major projects implemented with the support of the United Arab Emirates over the 1,000 days since the launch of Operation “Gallant Knight 3,” most notably the UAE-funded desalination plant located on the Egyptian side, with a production capacity of 2 million gallons per day, and the UAE water transmission pipeline extending 7.6 kilometers. The support also included the provision of 28 water tankers for water transportation, the maintenance, rehabilitation, and drilling of water wells, as well as the provision of 242 plastic water tanks and 18,722 plastic jerry cans for drinking water storage and distribution to displacement camps.
These interventions served as a vital lifeline and source of hope, making a significant contribution to alleviating the suffering of residents and displaced people and supporting the continuity of water services across different areas of the Gaza Strip.
At the conclusion of his remarks, Eng. Omar Shtat expressed his deep appreciation and gratitude to the United Arab Emirates, Operation “Gallant Knight 3,” and all local and international partners for their continued support to the water and wastewater sectors. He emphasized that this support has contributed to strengthening the sector’s resilience and maintaining the provision of essential services to residents despite the challenges and difficult humanitarian conditions facing the Gaza Strip.
