CMWU Completes the Implementation of a Water Conservation Awareness Campaign in Central and Northern Gaza

CMWU has completed a public awareness campaign in the field of water conservation, within the "Reducing Water Losses and Increasing the Efficiency of Water Networks in Deir al-Balah, Al-Nuseirat, and Jabalia Municipalities" project, funded by the Gulf Cooperation Council program for the reconstruction of Gaza through the Islamic Development Bank, with this project coming within the framework of CMWU's plans and projects aimed at improving the water services provided to residents and easing the severity of the water crisis in the Gaza Strip.

Through the awareness campaign, CMWU aimed to involve the local community in preserving water resources and cooperating with the service-providing bodies, and several awareness messages were directed during the campaign, including informing residents of correct behaviors to conserve water consumption and urging residents not to steal water by connecting water to their homes illegally, which could lead to the possibility of water contamination, exposing residents to health risks, and also exposing them to legal accountability by the competent authorities.

Through the campaign, the Utility also aimed to motivate the public to pay the water services bill, which would enable the service-providing bodies to continuously improve and develop their services.

The field work team, trained by CMWU on water issues and problems in the Gaza Strip, carried out numerous field activities that included home visits, community workshops, and interactive activities in several schools in central and northern Gaza Strip.

It is noted that CMWU implemented several media activities supporting the field campaign, consisting of broadcasting two radio advertisements, making billboards on the streets, and printing awareness messages on the back of the bill distributed in Deir al-Balah, Al-Nuseirat, and Jabalia.

CMWU calls on residents to cooperate and bear their responsibility towards conserving water and following optimal ways of using it and cooperating with the service-providing bodies in order to ease the severity of the water crisis.
