CMWU Holds Community Meetings in Preparation for Beginning the Implementation of a Public Awareness Program in Rafah and Khan Younis Cities
CMWU held two community meetings, one in Rafah and the other in Khan Younis, in preparation for beginning the implementation of a public awareness program ahead of completing the small-scale seawater desalination plant project south of Deir al-Balah and beginning trial pumping of desalinated water, with the plant expected to begin operating at the beginning of September to pump 6,000 cubic meters of desalinated water for about 75 thousand residents of the western areas of Rafah and Khan Younis cities.
The Media and Public Awareness Department had begun preparing to implement the program in cooperation with the Palestinian Water Authority and under UNICEF's supervision by holding focus groups with representatives of the local community from various age groups, with the groups including students, graduates, housewives, and workers in the health, education, and municipal fields and other professions.
These meetings aim to involve and communicate with initiative-taking and leading groups in volunteer work to choose an appropriate slogan for the awareness campaign accompanying the beginning of desalinated water pumping, and to introduce the desalination project and its accompanying awareness campaign, which aims to increase knowledge and strengthen positive behavior and orientation among residents and build bridges of relationships between beneficiaries and the water service providers.
