Opening the Largest Water Mural in Palestine Titled "For You We Work for a Better Future"
CMWU and the Palestinian Water Authority opened the largest water mural in Palestine, in Gaza city, funded by UNICEF, within the framework of the awareness programs implemented by institutions working in this sector to shed light on the water situation in Palestine and the efforts made to confront the water crisis in the Gaza Strip for years.
The opening was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Palestinian Water Authority Eng. Rebhi Al-Sheikh, CMWU's Director-General Eng. Monther Issa Shoblaq, and UNICEF's Gaza office Director Tania McBride, in the presence of a number of local and international media outlets.
Eng. Rebhi Al-Sheikh, in remarks, pointed to the importance of such events aimed at giving greater attention to water issues that affect all aspects of life at the public level, and pointed to the necessity of increasing creative awareness activities that strengthen public awareness.
Al-Sheikh said that the deterioration of the water situation in Gaza is not hidden from anyone, adding that the Water Authority works with all partners to confront this deterioration through promising programs seeking to find alternative water sources and preserve the groundwater aquifer, and explained that these programs include seawater desalination projects that have begun and are progressing rapidly despite all challenges, as well as sewage water treatment projects and programs for reusing treated water in agriculture.
Al-Sheikh praised the working team at the Water Authority and CMWU, the young implementing artists, and UNICEF for supporting this activity, noting that the mural addresses an important topic, namely the workers in the water sector with their diverse specializations and skills in the various public and private sector institutions, affirming the importance of their role in advancing this sector and its future.
It is worth noting that the mural was implemented by a team of artists, headed by the painter Belal Khaled, and the colorful mural extended over a wall 20 meters high and 10 meters wide in the center of Gaza city, over a period of about two weeks, and included a core message on the occasion of this year's World Water Day, whose theme for this year is "Water and Jobs," focusing on the workers and institutions working in the water sector, in recognition and appreciation of the effort they exert on one hand, and to draw the world's attention to caring about water programs and improving and strengthening the conditions of those working in it, in order to provide better service and work for the benefit of the homeland and the citizen, embodying the slogan carried by the mural, "For You We Work for a Better Future."
