CMWU Begins the Works of the Al-Shifa Hospital Desalination Plant Construction Project
CMWU has begun the works of the Al-Shifa Hospital desalination plant construction project in Gaza, with a production capacity of 500 cubic meters per day and a cost of $420,000 from Human Appeal.
CMWU began the project's first works by constructing a water tank with a capacity of 100 cubic meters daily, in addition to leveling works at the site and laying the plant's water lines, with the works including modifying one of the existing water wells, installing a complete wellhead, and building and installing a water pump to distribute it to the hospital's water distribution network.
The project's works are beginning simultaneously with the manufacturing and preparation process of the desalination units, currently underway at an Italian company, with all the works related to the desalination plant expected to be completed during next October.
It is worth noting that this humanitarian project is based on a donation campaign launched by Human Appeal UK, which received great response from donors, as the project aims to improve the quality and quantity of water supplied to the hospital, which has high salinity that negatively affects most of the medical equipment used in the hospital, especially the dialysis unit department.
The Al-Shifa desalination plant project comes in the context of CMWU's continued support for Al-Shifa Hospital in order to secure the hospital's needs for water suitable for the different departments' uses, and this plant is considered the second to be installed at Al-Shifa Hospital during the last three years, preceded by the installation of a desalination unit for the dialysis department.
