CMWU Begins Drilling a Water Well in Wadi Al-Salqa
CMWU has begun drilling a new water well in the Wadi Al-Salqa area, at a location in the middle of the area and relatively far from the border strip, funded by Human Appeal UK at $126,000, with the number of beneficiaries estimated at about 10,000 residents of the Wadi Al-Salqa area.
Eng. Ramadan Naeem pointed out that Wadi Al-Salqa Municipality has one water well located near the border strip with a production capacity of 50 cubic meters per hour, and the Municipality cannot operate the well during Israeli attacks and incursions on the Gaza Strip, which deprives the residents of Wadi Al-Salqa of drinking water and water for household use, and Naeem reported that the well was bombed during the last aggression on the Gaza Strip, causing it to completely stop working.
CMWU has begun drilling a water well with a production capacity of 60 cubic meters per hour since the beginning of this month, with the project expected to be completed by the end of next April, so that the area's residents can be supplied with drinking water, with the per capita share reaching 100 liters per day, and the choice of the middle location for constructing the well aims to facilitate the operation and maintenance process by the Municipality's crews and avoid water outages during periods of incursions on the Gaza Strip.
Eng. Naeem explained that the project consists of several phases, beginning with drilling works and installing the well's steel casing, then cleaning it and trial pumping, followed by construction works, then electrical and mechanical works, in addition to connecting to the water networks, with the first phase of the project currently being implemented.
In closing remarks, Eng. Naeem thanked Human Appeal UK for cooperating with CMWU to fund this important project, which serves the residents of the entire Wadi Al-Salqa area, and expressed his hope that this project would be the first fruit of many projects and continuous cooperation with CMWU to improve the water services provided to the residents of the Gaza Strip.
