CMWU, in cooperation with Khan Younis Municipality and with the support of the ICRC, carried out works to address the health hazard at the “Al-Wakala” stormwater collection basin in Khan Younis, located next to the Jordanian Hospital. The intervention aimed to reduce the health and environmental risks affecting residents and displaced people in the area, as well as patients and medical staff at the hospital.
The intervention was carried out in response to the urgent need to address the situation at the basin and the resulting accumulation of water and waste, which posed health and environmental risks, particularly amid the difficult humanitarian and health conditions faced by residents and displaced people in the area.
The works included addressing the health hazard within the basin, removing sources of pollution and potential risks, and improving the overall condition of the site. These efforts are expected to help reduce health and environmental risks in the surrounding area and improve conditions near the Jordanian Hospital.
The intervention is part of CMWU’s ongoing efforts to maintain minimum possible water and wastewater services and respond to urgent issues affecting public health and the environment, in coordination with municipalities and in cooperation with supporting partners, amid the significant challenges facing water and wastewater facilities across Gaza.
