In partnership with EcoPeace Middle East, CMWU, in cooperation with Rafah Municipality, commissioned a new water well in Hittin Camp, in the Al-Maslakh area of southern Gaza. The well has a production capacity of 13 cubic meters per hour, along with a 1,300-meter water network to supply the camp and neighboring camps, improving access to water for more than 5,000 displaced people.
The project was implemented at a time when the area is experiencing severe water shortages due to intensive waves of displacement, coinciding with rising temperatures during the summer, which have increased water demand and the daily needs of displaced families.
CMWU confirmed that the project is part of its ongoing efforts, in cooperation with its partners, to expand water services to shelters and displacement camps and alleviate the hardships faced by residents amid the difficult humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip.
The water sector continues to face significant challenges due to restrictions on the entry of oils and spare parts required to operate generators, pumps, and water wells. This directly affects the ability of service providers to operate water facilities and sustain services, further increasing the hardships faced by displaced people who rely on these sources to meet their essential water needs.
CMWU valued its partnership with EcoPeace Middle East, emphasizing that this cooperation contributes to strengthening efforts to provide water and improve access for thousands of displaced people. It also highlights the importance of effective partnerships in supporting the water sector and alleviating the humanitarian crisis, while calling for the facilitation of the entry of essential supplies needed to ensure the continued operation of water facilities and basic services.
