In preparation for the winter season and to strengthen readiness to manage stormwater flows, CMWU, in cooperation with Deir Al-Balah Municipality, carried out field works to rehabilitate and clean Wadi Al-Salqa, as part of a project for the rental of heavy machinery and provision of workers and technicians, funded by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
The works included removing obstructions and accumulated sand from the channel, preparing and widening its course to improve its capacity to convey and drain stormwater, as well as reinforcing its sides to reduce the risk of water overflowing from the channel toward residential areas and areas where residents and displaced people are staying.
The works are being carried out as a preventive measure as part of preparations for the winter season, aiming to reduce the risks of water accumulation and overflow into surrounding areas and mitigate potential health and environmental impacts resulting from rising water levels during rainfall.
Rehabilitation and cleaning works continue as part of a field plan aimed at improving drainage capacity and enhancing the area’s readiness to cope with rainy conditions, contributing to the protection of residents and surrounding areas and strengthening the level of services provided to the local community.
