How CMWU began

Since its establishment, CMWU has passed through stages that shaped its present structure and the scope of its services. The main milestones are set out below.

CMWU was created to unify the management of water services across the coastal municipalities, bringing municipal efforts under a single institutional umbrella to raise service efficiency and standardise its criteria. This took place under [to be completed: legal instrument of establishment].

Expansion of networks and construction of desalination and treatment plants, through infrastructure investment supported by international partners, extending coverage to include [to be completed: municipalities covered].

Digital transformation — 2026

Launch of an integrated digital platform together with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), digitising services and assets to improve the citizen experience and operational efficiency.
