CMWU Enhances the Readiness of Al-Qarara Stormwater Collection Basin for the Rainy Season

Published on

As part of its preparations for the winter season, CMWU, in cooperation with Al-Qarara Municipality and with support from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), carried out cleaning and rehabilitation works at Al-Qarara stormwater collection basin in the town of Al-Qarara. The works aim to improve the basin’s efficiency, enhance its capacity to accommodate rainwater, and reduce the risk of water accumulation and flooding in surrounding areas.

The works included removing accumulated soil, sediment, and debris from the sedimentation basin, as well as clearing floating debris and impurities from the surface of the filtration basin. These interventions will help improve the basin’s efficiency and enhance its capacity to receive stormwater during the winter season.

CMWU emphasized that these interventions are part of its winter preparedness and response plan and are being implemented under the heavy machinery rental project. It noted that cleaning and rehabilitating stormwater collection and drainage facilities are essential components of its efforts to reduce the risks of water accumulation and flooding and protect residential areas and displacement camps from their impacts.
