As part of emergency interventions aimed at protecting displacement camps from the risks of stormwater accumulation and reducing the likelihood of water reaching shelter areas, CMWU, in cooperation with Khan Younis Municipality and with support from the ICRC, carried out grading and preparation works on roads and areas surrounding Al-Aqsa Central Market.
The works included leveling ground elevations and adjusting slopes to help direct stormwater toward drainage routes, in addition to addressing low-lying areas around the camps. These measures enhance the area’s readiness to manage stormwater accumulation during the winter season.
The works are ongoing and will extend to other displacement camps in the southern Gaza Strip, as part of an emergency intervention plan aimed at reducing the risks of flooding and stormwater accumulation, strengthening protection for displacement camps, and improving environmental and service conditions for residents, particularly in areas most vulnerable to water accumulation.
These interventions are part of the ongoing emergency response efforts by CMWU and its partners to reduce the risks of flooding and water accumulation, strengthen protection for displacement camps, and improve environmental and service conditions for residents, especially in areas most vulnerable to stormwater accumulation.
