CMWU, in partnership with the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), funded by the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO), and in cooperation with Khan Younis Municipality, implemented a project to rehabilitate and maintain three wastewater networks in various areas of Khan Younis City. The project is part of efforts to improve wastewater services and reduce environmental and public health risks, particularly in areas that sustained extensive damage during the war.
The project aims to address health and environmental hazards resulting from the deterioration of wastewater networks, reduce wastewater overflows, and improve network efficiency, contributing to public health protection and improved wastewater services for residents.
The project included the rehabilitation and maintenance of three wastewater networks in Al-Manshiya, Al-Kusaikha, and Abu Shamlah areas of Khan Younis Governorate. The works enhance the networks’ capacity to collect and convey wastewater from the served residential areas to the maximum extent possible under the current conditions, while reducing wastewater overflows and associated health hazards.
This project is part of a series of projects implemented by CMWU in partnership with NRC to improve water and wastewater services across the Gaza Strip, enhance the continuity of essential services, and mitigate environmental and public health impacts, particularly amid the challenging humanitarian and operational conditions in the Gaza Strip.
