A training course on improving energy efficiency at water and sanitation facilities, as part of a study on raising energy efficiency in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, supported by the German government through GIZ.
As part of preparing a study on ways to raise energy efficiency at water and sanitation facilities in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, supported by the German government through GIZ, CMWU, in cooperation with the Palestinian Water Service Providers Union, opened a training course on improving energy efficiency at water and sanitation facilities, with this course continuing for 6 days with the participation of 22 engineers and technicians from the water and sanitation departments affiliated with the various municipalities of the Gaza Strip, while observing all the preventive measures and health precautions needed related to the coronavirus.
The training course was opened in the presence of CMWU's Director-General and Chairman of the Board of the Palestinian Water Service Providers Union Eng. Monther Shoblaq, Eng. Hazem Al-Mashharawi from GIZ's office in Gaza, and the representative of the consulting company coalition (Aqua & EMCC) Eng. Rifat Diab.
In his opening remarks for the training course, Eng. Monther Shoblaq affirmed the importance of such qualitative courses in raising the efficiency and capacities of those working in the water and sanitation sector and increasing their expertise and sharpening their skills, praising the role of the partner organizations and bodies in launching such a training course, particularly GIZ, as one of the important partner organizations that pays great attention to raising the efficiency of workers in the water sector in all specializations, as well as supporting qualitative projects that help improve water and sanitation services, and Eng. Shoblaq also thanked the municipalities participating in the training course, which affirms their keenness to upgrade their cadres in a way that benefits the quality of the service provided to residents.
In turn, Eng. Hazem Al-Mashharawi affirmed the importance of close cooperation between his organization, CMWU, and the Water Service Providers Union in the field of training programs, which significantly contribute to developing the skills of workers in the water and sanitation sector and supporting their capacity and adaptability to face challenges, which leads to upgrading this sector, affirming that GIZ will continue its support for those courses and other diverse training programs that contribute to achieving that goal.
During this training course, the results of the efficiency evaluation of some selected sewage pumps in various areas of the Gaza Strip and the steps needed to be followed to raise their energy consumption efficiency and the mechanism for selecting these pumps will be addressed, in addition to training on solar energy utilization mechanisms and remote control techniques, aiming to reach the optimal operation of these facilities with the least possible energy consumption.
