CMWU teams carried out emergency maintenance works at several desalination plants in the central Gaza Strip, as part of their ongoing efforts to maintain the operation of water facilities and ensure the provision of safe drinking water to residents and displaced people.
The works included maintenance of the Al-Maghaza Desalination Plant, with a production capacity of 40 cubic meters per day, and the Al-Muntazah Desalination Plant in Al-Masdar, with a production capacity of 30 cubic meters per day. The works also included maintenance of the Al-Bureij Central Desalination Plant in Al-Bureij Refugee Camp, with a production capacity of 70 cubic meters per hour, as well as the Al-Shaqaqi Desalination Plant in Al-Nuseirat Refugee Camp, with a production capacity of 120 cubic meters per day.
The maintenance works included emergency repairs, inspection of operational systems, replacement of damaged components, and troubleshooting of technical faults. These interventions contributed to restoring the operational efficiency of the plants and enhancing the continuity of desalinated water production to meet the needs of residents and displaced people in the beneficiary areas.
CMWU teams continue to carry out emergency maintenance works amid significant challenges facing the water sector, most notably the acute shortage of oils, spare parts, and operational materials required for the maintenance and operation of water and wastewater facilities. These shortages limit the speed of response to technical failures and place additional pressure on critical infrastructure.
