Restoring Operation of Sewage Pumping Station No. 5, Al-Baqara, with Support from the International Committee of the Red Cross

CMWU, with support from the Red Cross, restored the operation of Sewage Pumping Station No. 5, Al-Baqara, by installing a submersible pump with a capacity of 500 m3/hour.

CMWU, in cooperation with Gaza Municipality and with generous support from the International Committee of the Red Cross, managed to restore the operation of Sewage Pumping Station No. (5), Al-Baqara, by installing a submersible pump with a pumping capacity of 500 m3/hour.

This intervention is part of the proactive measures being implemented by the Utility in preparation for the station's desludging and rehabilitation project, which includes desludging the dry pump room and inspecting the mechanical system, which had been submerged in sewage and rubble resulting from the recent war, in preparation for transferring it to maintenance workshops for rehabilitation.

The work also included comprehensive maintenance of the pump and providing a new control panel for its operation, ensuring the system's operational efficiency and the sustainability of its work.

The submersible pumping system represents an alternative route to the main pumping system in emergency situations, which helps reduce health risks and ensure the continuity of sanitation services.

As part of this intervention, Gaza Municipality redirected the flow of sewage from the rainwater infiltration basins in Sheikh Radwan to Station No. (5), Al-Baqara, and from there through the pressure line to the Zeitoun Station (7B), which in turn transfers the sewage to the Sheikh Ejleen basins, enhancing the efficiency of sanitation system management in Gaza City.

These interventions are part of urgent, life-saving response programs, through the redeployment and recycling of available materials and equipment, amid the continued ban on bringing equipment, materials, and spare parts into the Gaza Strip, ensuring the continuity of water and sanitation services and reducing health and environmental risks.
