CMWU, in cooperation with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), continues to implement a water chlorination and disinfection program across various water production and distribution facilities in the Gaza Strip. The program aims to ensure the provision of safe and healthy water to residents and displaced people and protect public health from waterborne diseases.
The chlorination and disinfection program is one of the key preventive measures to reduce contamination risks and eliminate bacteria, viruses, and pathogenic microorganisms, contributing to water security and protecting public health.
As part of the program, CMWU distributed additional quantities of chlorine to municipal water facilities and desalination plants across the Gaza Strip in response to rising temperatures and increased water demand during this period, helping maintain water quality and compliance with approved health standards.
CMWU emphasized that continued chlorination and disinfection operations represent the first line of defense in protecting residents from diseases and outbreaks, despite the growing operational challenges facing the water sector, particularly the continued restrictions on the entry of chlorine dosing equipment, injection pumps, and spare parts required to operate and maintain disinfection systems. This threatens the sustainability of these vital services and makes it increasingly difficult to maintain water quality and protect public health in the Gaza Strip.
