CMWU, in cooperation with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), continues to implement a water chlorination and disinfection program at various water production and distribution facilities in the Gaza Strip, aiming to ensure safe, healthy water reaches residents and displaced persons and to protect public health from waterborne diseases.
The chlorination and disinfection program is one of the most important preventive measures to reduce the risks of contamination and eliminate bacteria, viruses, and pathogenic microorganisms, contributing to strengthening water security and preserving citizens' safety.
CMWU distributed additional quantities of chlorine to water facilities affiliated with the municipalities and desalination plants across the various governorates of the Gaza Strip, in response to rising temperatures and increased demand for water during this period, ensuring the continued quality of water and its compliance with approved health standards.
CMWU affirmed that the continuation of chlorination and disinfection operations represents the first line of defense in protecting citizens from diseases and epidemics, despite the growing operational challenges facing the water sector, foremost among them the continued ban on bringing in chlorine injection equipment and pumps and spare parts needed to operate and maintain disinfection systems, which threatens the sustainability of these vital services and increases the difficulty of maintaining water quality and public health safety in the Gaza Strip.
