CMWU continues to carry out maintenance works and emergency interventions on water and wastewater networks in northern and central areas of the Gaza Strip, in cooperation with municipalities across the Strip and with support from UNICEF, as part of its ongoing efforts since the beginning of the war to maintain the continuity of essential services to the greatest extent possible.
CMWU carried out maintenance and cleaning works on wastewater manholes and networks along Halawa Street in the Jabalia Al-Balad area. It also carried out maintenance works on a damaged wastewater line in the Al-Karama area, covering a length of 12 meters, in addition to removing debris and clearing roads to facilitate access to water and wastewater facilities. These interventions contributed to improving service levels for approximately 1,000 families.
In the Al-Salateen area of Beit Lahia, teams continued their field operations, including cleaning a number of manholes, clearing blockages in the networks, pumping out manholes filled with wastewater, and removing obstructions to ensure the continued flow of wastewater through the networks. Approximately 1,300 families benefited from these interventions.
In Gaza City, CMWU teams carried out maintenance works on a water line in the Tal Al-Hawa area, west of Al-Hidaya Mosque. In the Al-Manshiya area, north of Al-Wahda Street and near Al-Manshiya Desalination Plant, the teams opened a road and removed debris and part of a concrete roof to expose a water line in preparation for its repair. Around Al-Maqousi Towers, teams also carried out maintenance works on main wastewater networks with a diameter of 20 inches and a total length of 40 meters, contributing to improved network efficiency and continuity of services.
These interventions contributed to improving the efficiency of water and wastewater networks, reducing the risks of overflows and associated health and environmental hazards, and strengthening the capacity of technical teams to respond to emergency needs in the targeted areas.
These interventions are part of emergency and life-saving response programs, through repurposing and recycling available materials and used equipment, amid the continued restrictions on the entry of equipment, materials, and spare parts into the Gaza Strip, helping ensure the continuity of water and wastewater services and reduce health and environmental risks.
