CMWU Continues Construction of a New Desalination Plant in Al-Kanis Area, Rafah, with Support from the ICRC

CMWU continues to implement the construction of a new water desalination plant in the Al-Kanis area within the service area of Rafah, with support from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The project is part of efforts to strengthen sources of desalinated water and support the continuity of water services amid the current humanitarian conditions.

The project aims to provide safe drinking water and help meet part of the growing needs of surrounding camps and population gatherings. It will also support the filling of desalinated water tankers and provide water to a larger number of camps in areas hosting large numbers of residents and displaced people.

The plant is being constructed on an area of approximately 1,100 square meters, adjacent to Afaaq School in the Al-Kanis area. It will have a production capacity of up to 50 cups of desalinated water per hour, with a daily production rate of approximately 400 cups. The plant is expected to be completed in the coming weeks, contributing to strengthening desalinated water supplies and meeting part of the growing needs of residents and displaced people.

The project is being implemented as part of emergency interventions aimed at supporting the water sector and maintaining the continuity of essential services, amid the challenges facing water facilities and the increasing demand for desalinated water in areas of southern Gaza.
