CMWU has completed the drilling and construction of the Al-Qalaa Central Water Well in central Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip, funded by UNICEF and in cooperation with Khan Younis Municipality. The project is part of CMWU’s efforts to strengthen water sources and improve the capacity of the water supply system to meet the growing needs of residents.
The project was implemented amid an increasing number of returnees to central Khan Younis, coinciding with the onset of the summer season and rising temperatures, which have led to increased demand for water. The well aims to enhance the quantity of water available to residents in the city center, along Jamal Abdel Nasser Street, and in the surrounding areas.
The project is one of the interventions aimed at supporting the sustainability of water services and improving water supply, contributing to enhanced access to water for residents to the greatest extent possible amid the prevailing humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip.
The project included the completion and installation of all electromechanical works required to operate the well, including the installation of the pump, electrical control panel, connection pipelines, and various operational equipment, in preparation for commissioning the well and utilizing its production to support the water supply system in the beneficiary areas.
