CMWU, in cooperation with Gaza Municipality, carried out maintenance and upgrading works on the wastewater network in the Al-Maqousi Land area and around Al-Taqwa School and Khalil Al-Qouqa Mosque in Gaza City, as part of the Heavy Machinery Rental and Provision of Labor and Technicians Project, funded by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
The completed works included:
- Eastern side of Al-Taqwa School: Excavation works measuring 15 meters in length, 5 meters in width, and 6 meters in depth; installation of 13 meters of 20-inch-diameter HDPE pipes and connection of the line, in addition to installing a manhole 4 meters deep and 1.5 meters in diameter.
- Southern side of Al-Taqwa School: Excavation works measuring 17 meters in length, 5 meters in width, and 5 meters in depth; installation of 15 meters of 20-inch-diameter HDPE pipes. Excavation works had to be repeated several times due to repeated soil collapses.
- Street extension at Bab Al-Tekiya: Excavation works measuring 5 meters in width and 4 meters in depth; installation of 20-inch-diameter HDPE pipes and a wastewater manhole, in addition to installing 6-inch and 4-inch-diameter pipes to serve residents, despite repeated soil collapses during implementation.
- Western side of Khalil Al-Qouqa Mosque: Excavation works measuring 15 meters in length, 6 meters in width, and 6 meters in depth; installation of a manhole and approximately 14 meters of pipes, with excavation works repeated several times due to soil collapses.
- Southwestern side of Khalil Al-Qouqa Mosque – Bahlool Intersection Street extension: Lowering the ground level by two meters using heavy machinery, followed by excavation works and the installation of 12 meters of 20-inch-diameter HDPE pipes and a wastewater manhole. In addition, 60 meters of 16-inch-diameter pipes were laid and connected to the existing manhole at Tal’at Al-Ras Intersection, extending toward Al-Rashid Street.
CMWU teams continue working to complete the connection of the line toward Al-Shati Pumping Station, contributing to improving the efficiency of the wastewater network, enhancing drainage capacity, and reducing health and environmental risks resulting from the accumulation and leakage of wastewater in the area.
