As part of the second and third phases of the project to construct the seawater desalination plant south of the Gaza Strip, funded by the European Union through UNICEF, CMWU, in cooperation with the Palestinian Water Authority and UNICEF, continues the various construction works for the expansion of the southern seawater desalination plant, which aims to increase the desalination plant's productivity and improve the quantity and quality of water provided to residents of Rafah and Khan Younis cities.
It is worth noting that despite the difficult circumstances the Gaza Strip is suffering from and the continuous closure of the crossings, in addition to numerous restrictions facing the process of supplying the materials needed for the project, efforts continue and work is proceeding at full speed to complete this major vital project, which will lead to improving the quality and quantity of water provided to thousands of residents in the targeted areas of the southern governorates of the Gaza Strip, numbering about 250,000 people.
It is worth noting that CMWU supervised and participated in constructing numerous desalination plants spread across all cities of the Gaza Strip, which in turn work effectively to ease the water crisis and improve the water service provided to residents in various areas of the Gaza Strip, in addition to contributing to easing the burden on the groundwater aquifer, which represents the sole source of water in the Strip.
