Construction Begins on Al-Qalaa Central Water Well in Central Khan Younis City
CMWU, funded by UNICEF and in cooperation with Khan Younis Municipality, began carrying out drilling and construction works on the Al-Qalaa central water well in the center of Khan Younis city, southern Gaza Strip, as part of efforts aimed at strengthening water sources and improving the supply system's capacity to meet the growing needs of residents, particularly with the increasing number of returnees to the city center, in addition to the onset of the summer season and increased demand for water.
The project is one of the interventions aimed at strengthening the sustainability of water services, contributing to improving citizens' access to water at the minimum possible level given the current humanitarian conditions. The well has a production capacity of 80 cubic meters per hour, and will serve about 7,000 people in the city center and Jamal Abdel Nasser Street areas, increasing the quantities of water available to residents in these two areas and the surrounding areas.
The project includes equipping the well with all the necessary electromechanical works, including the installation of the pump, the electrical control panel, connection lines, and operational equipment, in preparation for putting it into service, contributing to strengthening the efficiency of the water supply system and improving the level of service for citizens in the beneficiary areas.
