Continuing Work on the Project to Construct a Rainwater Drainage Line in Al-Wafaa

CMWU and Khan Younis Municipality, in cooperation with the Water Authority and funded by the State of Kuwait through UNICEF at a cost of $1.5 million, continue work on the project to construct the main drainage line located in Al-Wafaa area in Khan Younis, south of the Gaza Strip.
This project aims to end residents' decades-long suffering, particularly as the area is considered one of the lowest-lying areas in Khan Younis, with rainwater arriving to it from all parts of the governorate, with this project including constructing a concrete culvert at varying depths to reach the engineering gradients needed to ensure the smooth drainage of water from the aforementioned area, reaching the main collection pool located north of Al-Amal neighborhood, as well as paving the area's streets and side roads.
The rainwater drainage line will also be connected to the existing network, reaching directly to the main collection pool north of Al-Amal neighborhood, in addition to rehabilitating the basin and constructing surrounding fences to protect residents from the risks of falling into it, with this project putting in place a radical solution to the problem of rainwater flooding for the area's residents during the winter season and making the most of rainwater by filtering it into the groundwater aquifer.
