Beginning Implementation of Phase One of Replacing the Sewage Pressure Transmission Line from "Al-Bassa" Sewage Pumping Station to the Main Line in Deir al-Balah City

Supported by the International Committee of the Red Cross, CMWU, in cooperation with Deir al-Balah Municipality, began implementing Phase One of replacing the sewage pressure transmission line from "Al-Bassa" sewage pumping station to the main line in Deir al-Balah city, central Gaza Strip, with this phase including replacing the damaged section, 150 meters long, as this line is considered one of the most important transmission lines in the sanitation system in Deir al-Balah city, transporting all the sewage water coming from all the city's neighborhoods, whose population numbers about 90,000 people, through Al-Bassa pumping station, to the main line on Salah Al-Din road, which discharges it to the Central Treatment Plant.
This intervention came on an emergency basis, given that this line passes next to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah city, the only hospital in the governorate, and not repairing it leads to sewage overflow next to the hospital in addition to the neighboring residential neighborhoods, which leads to the formation of numerous health hazards, particularly amid the continuing spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the Gaza Strip.
