CMWU carried out maintenance and rehabilitation on a number of electric power generators for water and sanitation facilities in various areas of the Gaza Strip, aiming to ensure those facilities do not stop working as a result of the continuing power outage crisis in the Gaza Strip, particularly amid the coronavirus pandemic and the essential need for water and sanitation services to prevent conditions in the Strip from worsening, with this coming as part of the emergency repair and maintenance project linked to combating the coronavirus, implemented by CMWU in cooperation with the German development organization GIZ, which comes in the context of the project to support residents' stability in the Gaza Strip funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
The process included carrying out maintenance and rehabilitation on the electric power generator of Al-Awqaf and Aida wells and Al-Nada reservoir in Beit Hanoun city, north of the Strip, and F203 water well and the sewage pumping station in Al-Maghraqa town, and "Block 12" sewage pumping station in Al-Bureij camp, in addition to the power generator of "Al-Bassa" seawater desalination plant in Deir al-Balah city, central Gaza Strip.
This project also includes supplying spare parts to maintain water and sanitation facilities and carrying out maintenance and rehabilitation works for 20 water wells and 10 sewage pumping stations, and maintaining electric power generators for various water and sanitation facilities in areas of the Gaza Strip, in addition to supplying chlorine solution for 6 months for use in disinfecting the water pumped into the distribution networks and chemicals for desalination plants, and the agreement also includes supplying materials and protective equipment against the coronavirus, in addition to implementing training programs for workers in the water and sanitation sector to enable them to work amid the coronavirus pandemic, as well as awareness programs for coronavirus prevention.
The Coastal Municipalities Water Utility (CMWU) carried out an emergency maintenance and rehabilitation of a number of electric power generators for water and sanitation facilities in various areas in the Gaza Strip in order to ensure a continuous functioning of those facilities, henceforth a continued provision of water and wastewater services to citizens of Gaza Strip.
This comes within the framework of the emergency repair and maintenance project related to fighting the Coronavirus, which is implemented by the Coastal Municipalities Water Utility upon an agreement signed with the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
