Completing the Rainwater Basin Project in Aslan Area in Beit Lahia

A joint committee from CMWU, the Palestinian Water Authority, the Arab International Organization for the Reconstruction of Palestine, and Beit Lahia Municipality received the works of the rainwater basin construction project in Aslan area in Beit Lahia city, north of the Gaza Strip, with an area of about 7,500 square meters, with this project aiming to end the crisis of rainwater accumulating in the low-lying areas of Aslan, Al-Attatra, and Al-Salatin neighborhoods, which are exposed to flooding as a result of rainwater overflow during the winter season, in addition to strengthening the groundwater aquifer, as the aquifer is expected to be recharged with 250 thousand cubic meters of rainwater annually through this basin.
It is worth noting that this project was implemented with joint funding from the Arab International Organization for the Reconstruction of Palestine and the Islamic Development Bank, in cooperation and coordination with CMWU, the Palestinian Water Authority, and Beit Lahia Municipality.
This project comes in the context of a series of projects that CMWU participated in and supervised the implementation of, which aim to strengthen the rainwater drainage and sanitation system and protect residents and their homes from the risks of rainwater flooding during the winter season.
