Completion of the Construction and Operation of Water Tanker Filling Stations at the Seawater Desalination Plant South of the Gaza Strip
CMWU established and operated water tanker filling stations at the South seawater desalination plant, in cooperation between the Palestinian Water Authority and UNICEF, and with support from the European Union.
This achievement comes as part of efforts aimed at easing the severity of the water crisis in the south of the Gaza Strip, amid the disruption of the filling system at the Al-Satar water reservoir in Khan Younis as a result of damage to the Mekorot water line feeding the areas of Khan Younis Governorate. This disruption led to an acute shortage of water supplies, particularly in the western areas of Al-Mawasi, which are among the most densely populated areas with displaced persons.
Under this intervention, all water tankers operating in the southern areas are directed to fill directly from the South desalination plant, contributing to strengthening the speed of the tankers' response according to the plans set by CMWU and the Water Authority, in coordination with partner institutions, to secure drinking water for displaced persons and meet the urgent needs in the south of the Strip.
